December 9th was a pretty boring day but I did get a few worthwhile items to discuss.  It all started out when I got up at 0829.  Lita was getting ready to go to the market so I informed her of what I wanted her to get.  I requested a couple of potatoes, a couple of carrots and a box of cereal.  When she came back she had a kilo of potatoes, a kilo of carrots and 2 boxes of cereal. Turns out, and you’ll find this out later in the post, that it’s a good thing she got so many.

Maybe if I start putting the Tagalog Word of the Day (TWOD) at the beginning of the post, I won’t forget it so much.  We’ll see how it works out for awhile.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the new format of the blog.  I will try to remember to keep at least 2 of the regular posts on the front page at all times.  I have posts set up for 3 per row right now.  I think I can go as high as 8 per row if necessary.  I could also put the newest post big on top and have the other posts smaller, below that.  I’ve tried several different formats before deciding on this one.  According to the way it looked when I was reviewing them, I don’t think I’d ever go more than 5 per row, it just doesn’t look right with anything higher.

I really would like to have a guest blogger at least once a week.  Naturally I would like to have a different guest each week.  So if anyone out there thinks they have something that they can contribute to the subject of the Philippines, and would like to give it a try, let me know.  I will see if I can set it up probably for you to try.  Of course y’all know by now, that I’m fairly new at blogs, and I’ve never had a guest blogger before, never been one either, but I think I know what I need to do to get you on here as a publisher instead of just a subscriber.  Speaking of subscriber, I don’t believe anyone has informed me as to whether there is a way to subscribe to this blog.  I’m sure there is, but I just don’t know where it is.  If someone has done it, then please let me know how so I can pass it on to everyone else.

Tagalog Word of the Day:  ilog (e-lug) means river.

Whenever I put a news article in here, I will try to remember to give my opinion of that article at the bottom of each one.  I can’t promise I will remember each time, but I sure will try, because I have an opinion on just about everything.

I found out this day that we will be having a scheduled brownout this coming Sunday, the 12th.  It is scheduled to be from 6:00am to 8:00pm.  That’s a long scheduled brownout, even by Philippines standards.

Lita made me some stew from some of those potatoes and carrots she bought.  She added some beef bullion cubes and the juice in there was just so wonderful.  But it was nothing like what she made me for the next night.

This morning, 10 Dec, I inched out of bed at 0758.  The only reason I woke up then was because I was having a dream, no not the same vampire dream that I wrote about back on 15 Sep, this dream was more simple.  I woke up swinging this morning though.  I was dreaming that I was laying in the bed, on Lita’s side, and a rat was running across my side of the bed, from foot to head.  I was swinging to try to knock him off, only to find out that he wasn’t there and I was on that side of the bed.  I think I had that dream because on Wednesday Ado caught a rat in a little rat cage.  The rat was still alive and in there squeaking.  It fascinated Precious to no end.  She was always getting my attention and pointing to it.  In addition to that, yesterday Kitty Grace caught a rat and bite it’s head off, or at least Lita told me this, I didn’t see it.  I guess all that seeing and talking about rats induced the dream.  I hope I have that vampire dream again tonight, I’m going to see if I can force myself to do something different in the dream, like get out of the house sooner, before the vampires get back, not after.

One of the first things I did this morning was to check the status of top blogs.  We haven’t been doing very well there lately.  The number of unique visitors has been low the past couple of days.  I’m hoping that the new format and me getting the blog out to more sites will help alleviate that problem, by encouraging the present readers to click on more things and I also am hoping that it will bring in new readers.  I was added to a new website today, Dave at www.philippinesplus.com added me to his recommended blogs list.  Thanks Dave!  I recommend y’all at least take a look at Dave’s site.  It is beautifully organized and has quite a few interesting topics.  Now that I eased that in here, Dave’s site gets tons more hits per month than we do here.  He told me that it was recommended to him that instead of doing one large post, that he should break each subject he wants to talk about into smaller posts.  I was wondering what y’all thought about that?  I wouldn’t leave anything out if I did it that way.  In fact, I’d probably end up doing more blah, blah, blahing.  I know how much some of y’all like that.  I’d appreciate some feedback on that subject.  Actually here is a survey that will make it easier for me to keep up with all the answers.  If you have an opinion on this please complete the survey.  It’s doesn’t have to be anything in great details, just a simple ‘1’ , several, or don’t care will do just fine.  You can elaborate if you want to, it’s not a problem.  This is my first survey, so I hope it works correctly.

I was going to do a poll, but I can’t find a good plug in for one that doesn’t take a lot of work to install.  This should work out just fine though.

I'm watching TV, Kitty Grace is watching the inside of his eye lids.

Another shot of the downtown area.

I’ve been trying to add a sub-domain to this blog, but it’s something that is over my head.  I tried to follow the instructions on found at GoDaddy.com for creating a sub-domain, but some of the things they say are suppose to be there when you click on it, are not there.  I’ll try to figure it out later.  I’m trying to created a blog or web page for MJ Tourist Services and I wanted to connect it to this blog.  I don’t want to have to buy a whole new domain for that if it’s possible to connect it to this one.

Remember all those potatoes and carrots that I said I was glad that Lita bought so many?  Well here is why.  She made a chicken stew today that was, to the best of my recollection, the best chicken stew she has ever made.  Now I’ve told you that I use to weigh 330 pounds, so you can bet that she has made a lot of chicken stew throughout the 30-plus years that we have been married.  I swear that this time it was just excellent.  I made 1 suggestion for it and she will do that next time.  I’m preparing for that one to be my highest rating…Outstanding.  I even told her that if she was ever stuck on what she should cook for me, she could just cook that, and she’d never have to worry about me complaining.  It seems I complain a lot.  I think it’s just her, I’m angelic, almost.

I did go downtown today.  Ado and I went to Home Depot to return that fluorescent light.  No problem returning it with the receipt.  After deducting the refund price, I still had to pay P230 for the new stuff I bought, but that’s understandable.  The new light I got cost P340, versus the last light that was only P72.  I looked at the rechargeable battery units while I was there.  They are almost P1500 each, about $34.  The back of the package said that the batteries could be charged 100’s of times.  If that is true, then I’ll be getting one of those in January for sure.  I wanted to get one now, but after that electric bill, we got to be shorter on money this month.  We also went by JustMar and I picked up 3 boxes of Maya pancake mix, 1 can of Raid, 2 kilos of sugar and another large jug of water so I can make some more lemonade.  I forgot to get the vinegar she wanted.  We stopped by the Shell station (that seems to be Ado’s favorite gas station) to get gas for the generator on Sunday during the brownout.  I was also looking for some shaving cream, shaving foam, shaving gel…anything similar to that, any brand.  But there was none to be found.  I guess I will continue to use soap until we go back to Tacloban next month.  The soap works fine, except it clogs up the razor too much.  Can’t clean that razor properly without hot water when it is so clogged.  I don’t mind going to the barber shop and spending P30 for a shave, but I don’t want to be doing that all the time.

This one is worth another look.

Taken while we were in the middle of downtown.

Well that’s about it for today.  I’ll put in some pictures and the Useless Knowledge and I’ll be finished.  The TWOD is at the top under the picture, in case you missed it.  Thanks y’all for reading and please let me know about my survey and whether y’all can register for this blog.

  3. If you have a long story, fine to break it into two or more days. Like the story about your meeting your wife. But you daily routine is a daily post.

    • Okay, I see what you are saying. You think I should continue the posts as normal, but when I have a different long story to post, I should break it up into 2 or even 3 different shorter posts. Which is exactly what you said only using different words, wasn’t it?

  4. Hi John! Thanks for the mention and good luck
on your blog. Man, it takes awhile to get
everything worked out when you first start
blogging, but I think you are off to a good
start. I like you writing style and encourage
    you to keep plugging away.

    • I have a writing style? I just type what I feel like typing when I sit down. Well I don’t know, I learned a long while back that to communicate with people it’s good to write to them, like your were talking to them in person. I guess that is my style. I’ve got not problem doing that because I don’t know that many big words anyway.
