BFAR to Expand Seaweed Production to Calbayog City

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, Sept 18 (PIA) — Despite seaweed farms in Daram , Samar being afflicted with ice-ice, the white particles that grow on the seaweeds, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) sees the need to expand to Calbayog City.

In her presentation, BFAR Assistant Regional Director Lina Palobe said that the office will purchase some P200,000 worth of seaweeds for planting in Calbayog City.

BFAR presented the status update of their project relative to the Pantawid program.

Palobe also asked the seaweed farmers in Daram and Zumarraga to take care of the seaweeds so that the ice-ice particles will not destroy the plants in the sea.

“Just like plants on land, farmers should check the status of the seaweeds,” Palobe urged seaweed farmers.
