Calbayog Farmers see Better Production with New Irrigation Project in Samar

 

CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar, Oct 16 (PIA) –The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) turned over the Baay-Binaliw Communal Irrigation Project on October 10.The 38 farmer-beneficiaries of the Baay-Binaliw Farmers Irrigators’ Association Inc expect better production with this. Their President Justino Regalia thanked government and assured sustainability.

“We promise to take very good care of this government project as we are aware how much this (project) costs,” Regalia said in accepting the project.

According to Monaliza Cuna, Irrigation Development Specialist (IDS) Chief, the farmers’ production used to be at 25 bags per cropping, per hectare but with the new irrigation project, as tried and tested in other projects, production increased to 75 bags.

“A total of 35 hectares will be covered by the irrigation project,” said Cuna. She added that the project started on August 16 and completed on April 30 2012 for P14.5 million.
