Thursday – 30 Sep 2010

[smartads] I was really tired this morning, but I got up at 0838 anyway.  Lita was heading to the market about that time.  She didn’t ask me if I wanted anything today.   We’re almost out of lettuce.

I didn’t go to bed until a little past 2am this morning.  I was downloading music and trying to organize it on the spot so I wouldn’t have a lot to do later, or, most likely forget about it and just have tons of it to organize.  If there is a ton, I’d probably not do it, and then I’d have a big mess.  I’m actually listening to the songs now to make sure they all work properly.  I have them in order by artist and Aerosmith is first.  Walk This Way is just starting.

Raven in 2006

I really afraid this will be a short post.  No really, I mean it this time.  I’m going to have to ramble my a$$ off to get this even close to 1500 words.  It’s already late and I’m just starting this thing.  It’s been right up next to dead around here today.  Not completely, but close.

Ramil stopped by this morning to pick up the truck.  He is taking it to the mechanic to finally get it all fixed.  The only mechanic we really trust to do it properly was on vacation in Manila.  Well he’s back now and ready to work.

Alice Cooper is coming on now.  Poison.  I didn’t use to listen to Alice Cooper, but since I’ve been here I heard 6 or 7 songs that are pretty good actually.  This is one of the best ones, I think.  I believe You and I is the best one though.

As I said I started this post late.  It’s 6:39pm right now.  I’ve been playing games, checking fantasy football and checking some more into MJTS.

Joshua 2006

Almost everyone. At Jun's house in Tacloban 2006

I had 3 BLT’s for dinner, around 4:30.  That will be the last time I eat today.  I still will be drinking though.  No alcohol, just Gatorade, Mountain Dew, Water and/or tea.  Yet that’s just about all I drink anyway.

Right around the time I was finishing up the last sandwich, I heard the truck pull back up.  I was hoping that Ramil would come in here and tell me what was going on, but he didn’t.  He probably told Lita and figured that was good enough.  She hasn’t told me a thing about it.  She just walked in and out of the bedroom and still didn’t say anything.  Next time she comes in, I’m going to ask.  Doesn’t seem right that I have to keep asking about things.  In the States, I’m the one that had all the control.  Not having it takes some getting use to, and I’m not to the ‘use to’ point yet.

I got a new reader for the blog today.  He is not showing up on here though.  He is going through another site that my URL is on.  He doesn’t want to display his messages to everyone, just to me and that site offers private messages.  Hey what ever the man wants.  He plans to move here to the PI in January.  He’s looking for advice and help from me.  I hope I don’t disappoint him.

My electric fan in the computer room quit on me today.  When I came in this morning to turn it on, the motor sounded like it was dying.  I unplugged it, and tried to take it apart, hoping that after I put it back together it would work, but I couldn’t get the cap off.  The one that goes in front of the blades.  First of all I have a hard time remembering which way to turn it.  What is that saying?  Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosy.  Something like that.  But the cap on the fan is the opposite, so I get confused.  Anyway I couldn’t get it off so, I just gave up on it.  I decided to try it one more time, so I plugged it in, and it worked.  It’s been running for several hours now, no problems.  I even turned it off once and it turned back on, no problemo.

I’m going to try my speakers again.  I think they got messed up, but I’m tired of wearing these headphones all the time, it hurts my right ear.  Don’t know why just that side.  I’ve loosened them up, but it doesn’t do any good.  Let me check those speakers.

NO!  They don’t work.  No power.  I guess that is really the #2 thing I need for this computer.  I need the All-in-Printer first, the speakers, a wrist pad and a new C-drive.  Probably priority in that order also.

In the open area that use to be in front of Titing's house.

Back when they were younger (2007) and quieter.

One thing I had about this computer room is, for some reason, I get a lot of dirt on the floor under the computer table.  I don’t know if it’s because of the concrete, dirt on shoes, or what, but it builds up quickly.  I have to sweep it myself about every week.  So much builds up.  I call it cement dust, because that’s what it looks like.  I swept it up and I couldn’t find the dust pan.  It wasn’t where it was suppose to be.  I had to go ask Lita, and she didn’t know.  When she asked Vicky, I went into the house.  About a minute later, Lynn showed up with it.  I used it, then returned it to where it’s suppose to be.  I made sure I told Lita that it’s suppose to be in one spot so it’s easier for everyone to find.  I hope the message got through.

Tagalog word of the day:  aso (aw-so)  means dog.

The last couple of days my internet has been running pretty good.  Only very few problems with waiting.  I’m not complaining.  If it was like this all the time, I’d be okay with it.  It’s 7:20pm now.

Becky Hobbs is singing now.  So far, no problems with any of the songs.

Well I’ve almost rambled my way to 1000 words.  Maybe by the time I finish this sentence, I’ll be over 1000.

Nope, it was 999.  Oh well, it’s over 1000 now.

I’m going to insert some pictures now.  I think tomorrow I will be going down town again.  I’d like to take some pictures of City Hall, the park, COBO market and a couple of the stores there.

That’s 8 pictures, that’s enough for now.  I’ll add a couple more close to the end.

Mar, Ludy and Marianne are here.  I asked Mar to come in and look at the new MJTS Flyer.  He seems to mostly approve.  I talked with him some more about the business, asked him some questions I wasn’t sure of, and know I have a better understanding now of how things are, and how they could be.   I still think I can get $500 off that original price he has.  I asked him about all expenses, and I still say that.  And, on top of that, I think that I can reduce it $100 for every group of 5 over 5, up to 20 people.  Meaning if it is 10 people, then I can reduce it $600 per person, group of 15 people reduced $700 and 20 (or higher) people $800 per person, all from that original price, that I haven’t disclosed yet.  I’m going to make a page and put it on here for y’all to check out, if interested.  I’ll do that later, I’m still checking other areas to make sure everything is basically sound.  I don’t like errors and try hard not to make them.  Of course I do, but it’s not because I didn’t try to make everything perfect.

Tricycle on the main road heading towards Calbayog

In front of our truck in our driveway.

I had to make some more soup.  I was still hungry.  I used the bottle water this time and I did not get that after taste, so I guess it is the water that is doing it.  Lita would probably get mad if she saw me using the bottled water, so y’all don’t tell her, Marianne, Marge and Marlou.

Bette Midler is singing “From a Distance” now.  So far, so good on the songs being good.

So sorry it was boring today.  Like I said, I will be going into town tomorrow and I’ll try to make something interesting happen so I can input it here.  I won’t rob a bank or anything like that, but when I walk downtown, things happen.  Even if it’s just giggling mga bata.

That fan is still working.

As I came to power peacefully, so shall I keep it.

  1. One of my biggest pet peeves is that things are never where they are supposed to be. I rant at everybody in our house about that very thing. I hate it when I want something and it is not where it is supposed to be. I have tried and tried to get them to understand but to no avail.

7 and a half days till I am back in the land of smiles.

    • And we can rant and rave for years, I have, and it’ll do no good whatsoever. Now Lita will put things where they belong, and gets on me if I don’t do it, but everyone is not Lita.
I know, you’ll be here next week. Did you find out your weight limits? Think you’ll be able to bring ‘any’ beef/chicken stew? As I’ve said a few times already, it’s okay if you don’t have room. I understand perfectly, been there and done that. I don’t suppose they make the stew in packages that are not cans these days, do they? I would think not, but you never know with all this technology they have these days. Be glad to finally meet the famous Montana Gary.

      • I found out that since I have silver medallion status with Delta, I get to bring two suitcases and each can weigh up to 70 pounds. I have enough other requests for stuff from Jen and a couple of friends in Angeles that I will have to bring two suitcases. So, the short story is yes, I can bring some stew and pork and beans too.

        • Woo Hoo. Great! More stress on the stew than the beans. Just let me know what the total will be and I’ll have the money ready for you when you arrive. Now I’m really going to be happy to see you.

  2. Hi JJ!

The Tong It players look like they really mean business, don’t they? It’s apparently very addictive -I guess just like gin rummy, poker, etc. when you really think about it- and it has caused a lot of serious friction between SL couples who are trying to make ends meet and have to end up missing meals when the rice-winner [can’t say “bread”] loses. I used to be a mean gin rummy player but haven’t played it for so long. Living has a way of getting in the way of past times or leisure pursuits. 😉

Our little SL town has the best water in probably all of that province. The pressure is very good, water is treated on a regular basis with no after-taste, and just all-around honky dory. The mayor at the time the whole project was started made it his priority to the grumbling complaints of the opposite party who tried to block it every which way. Glad he held fast. Before that the boil-water advisory was frequent.

As usual I enjoy your blog. Don’t worry about the being interesting. Surviving in the land of smiles is enough. Heheheh.. Keep typing! 🙂

    • I mean, surviving in the land of smiles is enough to make it interesting, as far as I’m concerned. Or I wouldn’t be checking it daily to find out how you’re faring.

    • We haven’t played tong-it for awhile, but we always tried to keep it good natured. Like I said, when/if I lose, I didn’t care. When I was ‘just visiting’ here I would sometimes lose on purpose because they needed the money more than I did. Wish someone would treat the water here. I know there is too much iodine in this stuff. I need to do something. I don’t seem to have a lot of readers, just a few that keep coming back. Every once in a while someone new shows up. Maybe I’m just hoping for too much.

  3. i will tell anty loly bout the water tomorrow… hehehe! 😛

    • If you do I’m going to give you a big kiss. 😉

      • Is that the pool at Margorie kristal hotel(spelling i am sure is wrong)looks like it we have stayed there alot, nice place at decent price and in my opinion about the best place to eat besides carmela. It is between calbayog and the airport.John i was talking about car service between calbayog airport and tarangdan very hard to find desent ride.I have used the airport there quite a few times, been going there for5 to6 years ,really like the laid back life and the friendly peaple there.cant wait until our return this jan.

        • I see that Tarangnan is about 1/2 way between Calbayog and Catbalogan, right on the coast too. Never heard of it until I looked it up. There are a couple of van services here in Calbayog that I’m pretty sure would to there. I know the name of one of the companies is Van’s Vans, it’s a catchy name, so I remembered. No idea how much it would cost though. From Catabalogan to Calbayog, they charged us P1100, there were 5 of us, so it should be less than that for you.

          • Yes we have checked with them in the past and it as been to long for there departcher and we have tried to rent a jeepny but they dont like to go that far so we usally take a boat.I think there are two vans that make regular
trips. Is your place out by the new hotel they built on the south end of calbayog?when we were ther two years ago they just had the ground floor done and were working on the second floor.Looks like it would be a nice place wonder what they will be chargeing for a room also hope they will have a desent resturant.

          • Oh, so you checked them.
You should read more of the posts. Yes we are close to the new hotel, in fact we are right across the street.
It is still not finished, but I hear that by the end of the year it will be opened and the room rates will be P4000 per night.
Know there will be a restaurant, that’s about it. Just walk across the street and by something at our store instead.

          • 4K per night? in Calbayog? I think they might be seriously misjudging the market. I stayed at a very nice hotel on Mactan Island for less than that and I can stay at the Holiday Inn Galeria in Manila for not much more than that. F&A suites are 1K per night right there in Calbayog on Magsaysay Blvd and I can’t believe this new place will be 4 times better. F&A Suites isn’t a five star or even a four star hotel but the rooms are big, they have cable tv, aircon and hot showers. That is all I need.

          • That’s the price I’m being told from the relatives. Suppose to include their little resort they have in the back. I haven’t seen that yet, but they seem to be building it up well. I wonder if it includes food? Probably not. I know it seems high, and no way would I stay there, but it isn’t my hotel or my money.
