SAMAR - Once you visit, you'll want SAMORE

Sunday – 10 Oct 10

Sunday – 10 Oct 10

[smartads] I was so tired when I got up at 0717, but I did it anyway.  Again today I do not have too many subjects on my list.  Well I have 10 things on my list to tell you today.  I’m not sure I can stretch them long enough to make a good post though.  But I usually do, just by blah, blah, blahing.  So I guess I’ll be blah, blah, blahing today.  There just like that, and this.

I accidentally put this fan picture on medium instead of thumbnail.  It’s easier to leave it instead of changing it, so I left it.  Blah, blah blah.

The bathroom fan.

Yesterday was Anna Pearl’s 17th birthday.  I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, but she said, “That’s okay”.  I even volunteered just to give her 1 free ice candy, and she wouldn’t even take that.  I’m not sure what’s going on with her sometimes.  She’s a very nice, very beautiful young lady, but she still acts like she is shy towards me sometimes, and she shouldn’t be by now.  Same thing with Chatty.  I guess they are just not sure how to approach me yet.  I guess that is totally possible.  Even people that have known me for years, and speak the same language fluently, have a hard time with me sometimes.  I’m weird, I admit it.  But I’m unique.  Anyway…HAPPY 17TH BIRTHDAY ANNA PEARL.

Last night I keep hearing a strange noise outside.  I finally got the flashlight and decided to investigate.  I looked all around with that flashlight, and never saw a thing.  While I was by the front gate, I heard a voice say, “Dog”.  I looked outside the fence, but I didn’t see anyone.  About then I heard it again, “Dog”.  It was the security guard across the street.  He saw a dog rooting around outside the fence, trying to get in.  I scared it off when I came out there.  Turns out that Lita, being the enterprising person she is, gives the security guards at the hotel, discounts on the BBQ, sometimes even free.  Guess it doesn’t hurt to have that going for us, especially when we have the tricycle outside overnight.  Less chance of it disappearing that way.

My lunch yesterday

This is the soda we sell at the BBQ. Actually Sting is an Energy drink.

“Hot” and “Cake” were taking a bath again outside this morning.  I took mine last night, inside.  I had to take a shower last night, I was all hot and sweaty.  In fact, before I went to bed last night I took care of all 3 S’s, plus I brushed my teeth.  So I was really clean, inside and out, when I went to bed last night.

I’ve got another new reader.  I hope she hangs around awhile.  Her name is Donna JoAnn.  She is my 2nd cousin.  She is the oldest daughter of my cousin Donna Carol.  We have all always called her JoAnn, so that’s not going to change with me.  She’ll continue to be JoAnn to me forever.  She contacted me on Facebook, and I mentioned the blog to her.  She checked it out and seemed to like it alright.  Guess I’ll know for sure if she continues to read and leave comments.  JoAnn seems to think that I live an interesting life.  To me it’s not interesting, but I’d say it was different.  I just go through my daily routines like everyone else in the world.  It’s just that mine are in a different country and the things I do may be different than some people are use to.  Of course when you are retired and still as young as I am, then you can do odd things too.  Like being over 50 and overweight and still jumping off cliffs into the water.  Problem or I should say, the reason is, because my mind doesn’t know how old I am.  It probably never will either.

BJ Thomas is “Hooked on a Feeling”.

This morning I made the last package of pancakes.  I got 5 good pancakes out of it.  I got to eat the equivalent of one pancake by the time all my “helpers”, helped me.  My helpers today were Lita, Crystal, Khan and Precious.  First pancake went to Crystal aka “Hot”.  Precious wanted some too, but she wanted her own, so Lita put syrup on ‘my’ 2 pancakes and started cutting them up.  I grabbed a couple of bites before it was all gone.  Lita ate the next pancake.  That left the last one in the pan.  Lita got it, cut it in half, gave half to Crystal and Khan (Cake), because by now Khan had showed up and wanted some too.  The other half Lita, Precious and I shared.  I think all together I may have gotten 1 whole pancake.

One of our big trips to the ocean.

At Malajog Beach

Just a couple of quick FYI’s.  It did rain again today, but not very long.  We had another brownout today from 12:08pm to 1:01pm.

The internet people showed up today.  On a Sunday, wow that took me off guard.  It took them over 1 1/2 hours to get a simple little internet and phone connection done.  First of all when they showed up, they forgot to bring the phone they are suppose to give me.  It took 2 guys to go back to the shop to get it.  The one guy they left here couldn’t figure out how to get the internet connection to work.  He tried several times.  When the ‘master’ technician finally got back, it took him about 45 minutes to get it going.  I don’t know what the problem was, I was never told anything except that the password that they had was probably wrong.  I had Robbie over here to interpret for me at first.  After 2 of the guys went to the shop, she left and I had to get Cathy to interpret after that.  Cathy ended up doing most of the work in the interpret department.  She ended up talking to the main office in Manila after the work was done to verify that it was up and running.  These guys, at first, thought Robbie was my wife, then later they were thinking Cathy was.  One of them even asked if ‘Ramil’ was my wife.  Let’s not get into that.  When they finally did get it hooked up, they left a mess here for me to clean up.  The phone that they gave me is pretty decent looking though.  I can’t figure out how to get the note card out to put my phone number on though.

Blake Shelton is singing about “The More I Drink”, the more I drink.

Go to Cebu. 2006

Saving the best for last of my things to talk about.  I noticed that there was a large crowd of people over at the hotel across the street.  I asked Cathy what was going and she said that they were having the Miss Anyag semi-finals over there.  There were women over there in bikinis, and Grace still has my camera.

Bob Marley is having some “Red Red Wine” now.

When the women starting coming out of the hotel, I noticed that they were all so skinny.  One of them looked like she was walking on toothpicks.  Now that is just too skinny.  I don’t like women that are too skinny.  They need to have a little bit of meat on them.  Maybe a little bit of love handles to grab on to.  Cathy told me that the finals for Miss Anyag 2010 will be at the Sports Complex downtown on 13 Oct, so maybe I’ll head down that way to get a few pictures of that for the blog.  If I remember.  Y’all remind me.  I looked up what this pageant was all about and this is all I could find: – check that out.  Sorry don’t know why it doesn’t come up just to click on it and go to the site.

Bobby Vinton wants some “Red Roses for a Blue Lady”.

I remembered something else to write about, but before I get to that, Vicky’s son brought the tricycle back a few minutes ago.  I forgot to tell you that he and Vicky came by at 5:45pm to pick it up.  So he had it about 3 1/2 hours.  Not sure how much money he made, but we got P30 for him using it.  Otherwise it was just sitting there anyway.

I just put all the pictures in.  Boston is telling me about their “Peace of Mind”.

Ramil got a job.  He is starting on Tuesday, day after tomorrow.  This is how hard it is to find a job in the Philippines.  He had to take a job in Manila.  Yes, way up in Manila.  That is about a days drive from here.  He said that he probably would not be home for at least 5 months.  This job must be paying pretty good, because he turned down a job in Catbalogan, and it is much closer than Manila.  Robbie doesn’t seem to mind.  She knows that it’s better than him sitting around the house all day.  Maybe now she won’t have to work so hard.  If the job pays enough, maybe she can quit and stay home with mga bata.  She doesn’t have to pay anyone to watch them, they usually just stay with the Auntie Marianne at their Lolo and Lola’s when they are not in school.  Of course Faye doesn’t go to school yet.

Boy George wants to know “Do You Really Want To Hurt Me”.  The answer is Yes!

Okay that’s it for today.  I think it turned out alright today.  Sure could have been worse.  Think the pageant and Ramil’s job pulled it out for me.

World’s Largest Salad
The residents of Baguio City took pride in having tossed what was believed to be the world’s largest salad – a three-ton mix of assorted vegetables.

On September 29, 2002 during the Tossed Salad Festival in commemoration of the city’s 93rd charter anniversary, 67 students and members of the Baguio Association of Hotels and Inns (Bahai) mixed 2,976 kilograms of lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes, bell peppers and other vegetables in a tin and wrought iron bowl measuring 20 feet long, 10 feet wide and 2 feet deep.

Some 13,657 people were able to partake of the P1.5 million mixtures. They paid P20 for each serving of the tossed salad with Thousand Island dressing and another take-out bowl of salad with a gourmet vinaigrette dressing consisting of apple cider vinegar and olive oil.

The city broke its own record set a year earlier. On September 16, 2001, a 917-kilogram of salad was able to feed 4,861 residents and tourists of Baguio City. On September 14, 2002, a religious group prepared a giant Caesar’s salad that fed only 1,000 people in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Boy I sure wish I could have gotten in on this salad.  They have some nice fresh vegetables in Baguio City.

Salamat, Palaam

  1. Shyness….I experience it all the time with 2 of my wife’s 3 younger sisters. The youngest is 11 and talks to me with not problems but the 14 and 15 year olds are still very shy around me even though I have known them for 4+ years now. I think it may never go away.

    Happy 17th Anna Pearl!!

Hotel guards…yes, by all means give them discounts all of the time and free food some of the time. When we were living in an apartment here in Angeles, the complex did not have a guard but there was a guard at the Montessori school across the street. There were many times we would take them food and drinks in the hope that they would keep a watch on our complex too. I am not sure that it helped but I felt it could not hurt.

When are you and the family heading for Cebu? I want to make that you are there when we head to Samar. I hope to spend some time in Samar so the dates may not be terribly important but the time I spend depends entirely upon whether the internet will allow me to work from there. Even if I get the higher speeds like you finally got, I still need it to be available to me when I need it.

    • Not going to Cebu until December, probably. Going to Tambis on 30 Oct, but back on 2 Nov.
When do you think you’ll be coming by and how much do I owe you for all the stuff you got for me.
Watching Cowboy game on computer. Need to go. Talk with u later.

    • Cowboys lost again. A lot of the talented teams seem to be losing this year. Cowboys, Packers, Saints, Chargers…what’s going on?

      • I just saw the Cowboy’s score. I have been a Cowboys fan since the days of Staubach so I am usually pulling for them although this time I was pulling for the Titans. It was nice to see that Marc Mariani returned another KO for almost a TD. I have know Marc since he was knee-high to a grasshopper so that is why I was rooting for the Titans. He returned a kick off last week for a TD and almost one today. Not bad for a kid that was a walk on to the University of Montana.
I am not sure when Jen and I are coming to Samar and I have to add up how much you owe me. I will let you know.

        • Well he helped a lot of my fantasy teams, but I’d rather have those stupid Cowboys win, then win my fantasy leagues. Looks like I’ll have to settle for fantasy football wins this year, again. Well, when ever you come and we’re here is good. You aren’t bringing anything that is perishable, so it doesn’t matter.

  2. I hope you are keeping a running tally of how much you are spending on your store and how much you are making with same and the bikes you are lending out. Because I am sure the BIR is going to be knocking on your door on April 15 and asking for their cut. Foreigners are probable the first ones they check for income. All it takes is a pissed off neighbor or someone who’s profits you are cutting into for the goverment to be knocking on your door.

    • Yes we are keeping tabs. We’re not getting rich though. Not really making that much money, but it’s okay. A little at a time is good enough for us. Just enough to by more ingredients for the next batch and to buy a little food for us.

  3. Happy 17th Birthday Anna Pearl…hello Joann welcome 2 the blog…dont 4get john about goin to the sports complex downtown on the

    • Too bad Keith…Joyce beat you to the smart ass remark.
