SAMAR - Once you visit, you'll want SAMORE

Since I have no idea when this COVID-19 crap will be over with, I had 5 new masks made.  I’m not sure if I told y’all about them already, but I have now.  They were made by the lady that does our sewing.  She only charged us P20 (.40) each.  I got 2 yellow ones, 2 green ones and 1 dark blue one.  The only thing I asked is that none of them be pink.  I don’t do pink.  They actually fit better than the one I have been using.

I’m still doing well with my weight loss.  Of course I will not weigh again until Saturday (today is Wednesday) but I think it will be lower again.  As you probably remember my goal is at least 1 kilo (2.2 lbs) per week.  If I keep up that rate I should reach my goal in about 44-45 weeks.  I’m only in 1 1/2 weeks so far, but I feel confident and I do have a partner to help me along.  As I always say, “I didn’t gain all this weight overnight so I should not expect to lose it overnight”.  I also know that if I lose it slowly there is a better chance that it will stay off because I will have developed new habits along the way.  I wish that anyone out there that is rooting for me would leave a comment letting me know of your support.  I need all the encouragement I can get.

Today, Ninja Van Services finally delivered anyone of my packages, my hard drive.  I have not opened it yet because the case that I ordered to put it in is the one deliver they have not made yet.  All I have left is that case and my new computer chair.  The case has been in the Catbalogan office since 15 May.  My chair is probably coming via LBC and not Ninja Van and it’s not due until next week (22-26 June).  Most likely the chair will be on-time.  I’m so tired of pushing this big throne chair around so the computer chair on wheels will be nice.  The feature picture is of my throne chair.  It is big and awkward and 2 of the 4 wheels that were on it broke off.  It served it’s purpose, but it’s time for it to go.

Yesterday I had a difficult time.  I did my walk in the morning (around 3.75 kilometers) and that afternoon I ended up having to walk and stand some more.  I had to go downtown to take care of my Globe bill, which I had not paid in 3 months due to COVID-19.  There was a line to get into the Globe office.  I waited for about a 1/2 hour.  Then when I got inside I had to wait almost another 1/2 hour.  When I finally got up there, it turns out that I didn’t bring enough money to pay the entire bill, which I needed to do to keep them from turning my internet off.  I ended up having to walk to the bank and waited in another line there, also about a 1/2 hour.  I’m not sure why it takes these people so long to use an ATM machine.  I’m in and out in about a minute per transaction and half of that time is waiting on the ATM.  Anyway, then I had to walk back to Globe and, at least I didn’t have to wait in the line again, they just let me go in to take care of the rest of the bill.

After that I made the very short walk to Mercury Drug to get my medication for high blood pressure, which I hope I will not need anymore very soon.  Thankfully the line was short (about 5 people in front of me) and it went quickly.  Once inside I got my pills pretty quickly also.

Then I had to go to Metro Supermarket.  I got in quickly because I used my status as a senior citizen to walk in.  Once inside I got my 5 items but when I went to check out, all the lines were so very long.  I just didn’t have it in me to wait in another line.  I don’t really like waiting in lines anyway.  I returned the meat to the meat market and just left my basket with the other 3 items in it sitting on top of a display of noodles.  I just walked out of the store and got a tricycle to get home just as soon as I could.  My legs were aching.

This morning (17 June) I still went for my walk though.  I still did my 3.75 kilometers but I was more tired than I normally am.  I hope I will be back to my normal self tomorrow but most likely it will not be until Monday, after my Sunday rest from walking.  I refuse to give up and not walk though.  I am so determined to lose the weight this time.

  1. When I fir5st moved to the Philippines I met another expat also named Dave who had been here many years. He ran several businesses in the Philippines and he gave me one invaluable piece of advice…

    Never leave your house to do more than one task (for example, pay one bill). Anything else, do the next day r the day after. I have violated that advice many times and I always regret it when I do. The “Old Dave” was right. One bill or one trip to the bank or one supermarket visit at a time.

    • Why only 1 task? To make sure you have everything?

      • No, but just because of what happened to you on this odyssey you just describe … when there are multiple tasks thing always seem to multiply and one problem always leads to another … next thing you know you are coming home hours later than you thought you would be, and all worn out, thirsty and sometimes pissed at how thing went. Only allow one thing the opportunity piss you off on one day … you’ll live longer 😉

        • If you have the time to do that, it sounds like a good plan. I suppose it depends on the task. Doing 2 or 3 simple tasks seems harmless enough, although you never know. Paying my Globe bill should have been a simple task. I’ve got the time to do everything so maybe just doing them one at a time is the way to go. It wouldn’t hurt to try it out for a while to see how that works out.
